![]() LifeLock identity theft protection is not available in all countries.Ĭopyright © 2022 NortonLifeLock Inc. The Norton and LifeLock Brands are part of NortonLifeLock Inc. Do you think that is a thing I should worry about or am I just being paranoid? What would your course of action be?Īnd concerning my other issue I think I am right to believe that it 's just Norton configuring itself and disabling Windows Defender. If that is right then it is just weird that it turned itself off for some reason. So there is absolutely no way that Norton could have anything to do with the issue? I actually found a forum post on here with the exact same issue ( here). If you click "App and browser control" and "Reputation-based protection settings," you will see the option for SmartScreen to check apps and files. Clicking the icon should open a window showing various Windows Security categories. ![]() I think the confusion is that the icon in your system tray is actually the Windows Security Notification icon, and not Windows Defender. The "Check apps and files" feature is an option belonging to SmartScreen, so it too can be enabled. It is safe and recommended to leave it enabled. SmartScreen does not conflict with any of Norton's features or functions. Is this normal? Do you have it on your computer too? New value: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Features\TamperProtection = 0x0 Old value: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Features\TamperProtection = 0x1 If this is an unexpected event you should review the settings as this may be the result of malware. ![]() Microsoft Defender Antivirus Configuration has changed. ![]() I did not find anything related to my first issue but I have noticed this event from back when I turned on this computer (preinstalled with Norton) for the first time: Is it possible that Norton Security is responsible for this? Is this normal behavior that I should not be worried about?Īnother thing: I have looked at Windows Defender events in the Event Viewer. I did not disable this feature on my own. It said the "Check apps and files" feature was disabled and prompted me to re-enable it. When I turned on my computer today I have noticed that Windows Defender had a yellow triangle next to its icon.
